新個人資料保護法令將從9月1日起正式生效，商家和業者等到時只有在法律規定下或有必要證明身份時，才能向公眾索取身份證號碼。

個人資料保護委員會發文告——

提醒業者在新條例生效後不能任意收集、使用和公開個人身份證號碼，或扣下身份證，以加強對消費者的保障。

新條例也涵蓋護照、工作準證、出生證，以及外籍人士身份證。

委員會在去年8月宣布這項新條例，因此業者已有一年時間改善運作模式以符合新條例。

委員會也鼓勵業者按其商業模式和營運需求選擇採用其他方式來識別消費者，例如採用電子政府密碼應用（SingPass Mobile）的服務之一SG-Verify，並避免過度收集消費者的其他個人資料。
