對於新加坡國民而言，1965年8月9日那一天值得世世代代紀念！而在國慶節當天去現場看國慶盛典了，是每年最重要的事情之一。

1965年，新加坡在一片懷疑聲中掙扎求存，終於8月9日正式從馬來西亞聯邦獨立。

這個自然資源嚴重匱乏的「羸弱小國」，衝破逆境，從國內動亂、地區衝突和國際政治的狂風暴雨中靈活地找到了成功的出路。以一個重要商業中心、金融中心和全球參與者的身份登上世界舞台。

每年國慶日慶典期都會有精彩紛呈的慶祝活動。觀眾端坐觀賞台上，欣賞聲勢浩大的閱兵儀式、精彩紛呈的多元文化歌舞表演和以濱海灣 (Marina Waterfront) 美輪美奐的城市風光為背景的空中煙火表演，著實令人驚嘆。以這種方式慶祝國慶已經成為了一種傳統。

今年的新加坡國慶慶典，與以往有所不同，因為今年恰逢新加坡開埠200周年，所以慶典節目設有開埠200周年特別環節，空軍部隊添油運輸機也首次參與。 

今年的國慶慶典主題是「我們的新加坡」（Our Singapore），呼籲國人團結一致，共同建立未來的新加坡。

今年的煙花特！別！多！除了濱海灣，新加坡河也燃放煙花。是為了配合慶祝新加坡開埠200周年，標誌這條河道的歷史意義。
