Gardens by the Bay

●滨海湾公园●
Gardens by the Bay
Singapore may be a small country, but there’s plenty of places to visit and things to do on weekends. Some of Singapore’s best-known landmarks make up part of its picturesque skyline. One of them is the Gardens By The Bay, which happens to house 18 Supertrees that come alive with an exhilarating light and musical show at night. Take your time to explore the Flower Dome, which contains eight gardens, a field of flowers and a display area with ever-changing seasonal blooms. There’s also the Skypark Observation Deck of Marina Bay Sands’ Skypark, which at 56 stories high, offers some of the best views of the Marina Bay and Central Business District area. Then there’s Haji Lane with its bright and colourful murals; its cafés inspired by cuisines around the world and its eclectic fashion boutiques.

Hawker food is known to be generally affordable and is well-loved by Singaporeans. Eating happens to be one of Singapore’s national past-times, thus making it a must do thing on weekends. Want to learn more about Singapore’s cuisine and heritage? Why not go on a hawker food expedition? You’ll learn about Singapore’s impressive range of mouth-watering dishes prepared by heritage hawkers, who consider it a matter of national pride and duty to whip up the best in Singapore cuisine.
Hawker food is a big deal according to the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation, or UNESCO. In 2020, hawker culture in Singapore was inscribed on the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. Some of Singapore’s most renowned hawker centres include ABC Brickworks Food Centre, Chomp Chomp Food Centre, and Old Airport Road Food Centre. One of the most famous hawkers at ABC Brickworks Food Centre is Jason Khaw, who was formerly the British High Commissioner’s personal chef. There’s also Chomp Chomp Satay, at Chomp Chomp Food Centre, which has a Michelin Plate mention.

One of the best things to do over a weekend in Singapore is to visit a museum. You’ve probably heard of the National Gallery of Singapore or the National Museum of Singapore. And you should absolutely visit them! You should also consider planning a trip to the Live Turtle & Tortoise Museum at ORTO in the north of Singapore. Or take a look at what’s new at the ArtScience Museum over at Singapore’s Downtown Core, which hosts touring exhibits from around the world. Some of the exhibitions that have been shown at the museum include priceless works of art by Salvador Dali, state of the art football boots by Nike, as well as some of the world’s best-known office chairs designed by Herman Miller.
